July 12, 2013 – The Economic and Social Council concluded Friday morning ‘s debate on the operational activities of the United Nations system at the service of international cooperation for development by adopting by consensus a resolution on the issue. It also held, in the early morning , its general debate on operational activities.
Under the resolution adopted this morning, the Council requested the funds and programs of the United Nations to align their strategic plans for the quadrennial comprehensive policy review and synchronize their cycles of strategic planning and budgeting cycle with the quadrennial comprehensive policy review.
It also reaffirms that core resources, because of their untied nature, continue to be the major source of funding for operational activities and urges donor countries to maintain or significantly increase their voluntary contributions to the budgets of ordinary basic or United Nations development and contribute on a multi-year cycle , on an ongoing and predictable..
